Mr. Handy’s Blues: A Musical Documentary” recounts the heroic journey of W.C. Handy, known as The Father of the Blues. The film has been eight years in the making, and is a true labor of love for Emmy Award winning Producer/Director and “behind the scenes blueswoman” Joanne Fish. Featured in the film are new performances by Women in Blues Redd Velvet, Miss Ruby Wilson, Sarah Jane and The Blues Notes, 14 year old Race Simmons, Miss Jubilee, Kim Massie and Mandy Lemons Nikides {Low Society}, and archival footage featuring Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Eartha Kitt and others.
“Mr. Handy’s Blues” is produced by Cinema South, a non-profit 501 C-3 organization based in Nashville, TN. They have launched an Indiegogo Campaign to help with the editing and finishing costs. All contributions are tax deductible.
